How are aluminium profiles manufactured?
Aluminum alloy is an alloy material synthesized by aluminum and other metal elements in a certain proportion. And Aluminum Profiles refer to the aluminum products with specific cross-sectional shapes, which are made from aluminum raw materials (aluminum ingots or aluminum rods) through processing techniques such as extrusion and stretching. In simple terms, aluminum alloy is the material composition, while aluminum profiles are the finished products after processing of aluminum alloy.

Aluminum profiles are classified into several categories based on application fields, shapes, surface treatments and alloy compositions. Firstly, there are architectural profiles, which are mainly used in the construction industry, such as door and window frames, windows, etc. They usually use 6063 aluminum alloy. Secondly, industrial profiles are mainly used to manufacture various parts of industrial equipment and machines, and are typically made of 6061 aluminum alloy and 6063 aluminum alloy. Finally, there are some transportation profiles and electronic profiles, which are used for car bodies, railway shells, and the outer shells of some electronic products, etc.
The formation process of aluminum profiles is usually accomplished through the extrusion forming technology of aluminum alloys. That is, aluminum rods/aluminum ingots go through three processes: melting, extrusion and surface treatment, thereby obtaining different aluminum profiles. The main process steps of aluminum profiles include the following several steps:


(1) Heating
Heat the aluminum ingot or aluminum rod to an appropriate temperature (usually 450°C to 500°C) to make it soft and easy to be extruded into shape.
(2) Extrusion forming
Put the heated aluminum alloy raw material into the extrusion machine and push the aluminum alloy through the specific-shaped molds under high pressure to form aluminum profiles with different cross-sectional shapes.
(3) Anodizing
The Extruded Aluminum alloy profiles must undergo anodizing to enhance the corrosion resistance, wear resistance and appearance of the surface of the profiles.
(4) Sealing holes
Although the oxide aluminum film (i.e. anodic film) generated during the anodizing process has certain corrosion resistance and hardness, there are still tiny pores (with pore diameters of about 5-50 nanometers) on the surface of the anodic film. The sealing holes treatment is to close these tiny pores.
